Abstract

This research was conducted based on the problems by the students in learning English especially in reading narrative text in of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Indragiri Hulu. It has three formulations of the problems that focus on finding out about (1) ) the levels of the students’ reading comprehension on narrative text taught without using Gallery Walk strategy (2) The levels of students’ reading comprehension of narrative text taught by using Gallery Walk strategy (3) whether there is a significant effect of using Gallery Walk strategy on students’ reading comprehension of narrative text at the first grade students of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Indragiri Hulu. The type of this research was Quasi-experimental research design. The subject of this research was the first grade students at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Indragiri Hulu in academic years 2017-2018. To analyze the data, the researcher adopted Independent Sample t-test by using SPSS 17 version. Based on the analysis data, the level of the students taught without using Gallery Walk strategy categorized as less level. The researcher found that the level of the students taught by using Gallery Walk strategy categorized as good level, In analyzing Independent sample ttest the researcher found that sig (2-tailed) < 0.05 that was 0.00. Thus, the researcher concluded that null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. In other words, there was a significant effect of using Gallery Walk strategy on students’ reading comprehension of narrative text at the first grade Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Indragiri Hulu. Besides, the researcher calculated the effect size of this strategy and the result was 0.36 and it is categorized into Large Size.
