Abstract

ABSTRACT Sumrita Nasution, (2020): The Effectiveness of Group Discussion on Information Service in Changing Student Negative Perception of Guidance and Counseling Teacher at State Junior High School 1 Kampa This research aimed at knowing student negative perception of Guidance and Counseling teacher functions before being given Group Discussion technique on information service, student negative perception of Guidance and Counseling teacher functions after being given Group Discussion technique on information service, and the effectiveness of Group Discussion method on information service in changing student negative perception of Guidance and Counseling teacher. It was a pre-experimental research. The one group pretest posttest design was used in this research with the structure “O1×O2”. The subjects of this research were the students, and the object was the effectiveness of Group Discussion on information service in changing student negative perception of Guidance and Counseling teacher at State Junior High School 1 Kampa. 30 students were the samples selected by using Purposive sampling technique. 30 students were treated 6 times by implementing information service with Group Discussion technique. Questionnaire, pretest, posttest, observation, and documentation were the techniques of collecting the data. The analysis was done by using Paired sample t-test. The research findings showed the effectiveness of Group Discussion on information service in changing student negative perception of Guidance and Counseling teacher at State Junior High School 1 Kampa. It could be seen from the result of Paired sample t-test, tobserved 7.915 was higher than ttable 2.00, so H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. It meant that there was a difference on student negative perception between pretest and posttest. The difference result between pretest and posttest of the implementation of information service with Discussion technique showed the significant difference after the treatment. It could be concluded that information service with Discussion technique was effective in decreasing student negative perception at State Junior High School 1 Kampa with the previous score 81.63 that was high, and it decreased to 64.86.
