Abstract
Based on preliminary research, the writer found the most of male and female students did not achieve the target of curriculum 2013. They learned in equal condition and their teacher teach them without any segregation. However, many previous researchers have note the evidence of a growing gender gap in educational achievement. Thus, this research aims to know whether there is significant difference between male and female students on their reading comprehension in comprehending descriptive text at State Junior High School 1 Pekanbaru. There are 240 students of seventh grade as population that are divided into 6 classes, the writer took 30 male students and 30 female students as samples that are taken randomly. The design of this research is comparative research by using test consists of 20 multiple choice questions as its instrument. In analyzing the data, independent sample T-test technique is used to measure the difference of students’ reading comprehension means score between male and female students. Based on the research finding, it was found that probability level = 0.014 < 0.05. That is concluded that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted means there is a significant difference on students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text between male and female students at State Junior High School 1 Pekanbaru where female students have higher score than male students in reading comprehension.
