Abstract
Based on writers’ observation, the writer found that the students have low motivation in studying English language, so the writer is interested in conducting this research to increase it by implementing directed reading thinking activity strategy, this strategy could motivate the students to be concentrated and involved then intellectually, and also motivated them to formulate the questions and hypothesis about a story. The formulation of this research is how directed reading thinking activity strategy improves students’ motivation in studying English language at the seventh year of Islamic junior high school Muhammadiyah Tanjung Belit Air Tiris district of Kampar the regency of Kampar. The data which have been collected in this research are qualitative quantitative data which consist of teachers’ activities and students’ motivation. Teachers’ activities and students’ motivation are obtained from observation sheets. Based on the results of research, the writer concludes that directed reading thinking activity strategy could improve students’ motivation in studying English language before action until the third action. In the second cycle students’ motivation has improved well and has exceeded minimum criteria score specified it is around 75 with average score is 80,5%.
