Abstract
This study aims to improve the ability to understand short texts using cooperative learning model script on English subjects graders V Rice Elementary School District 001 North Kampar Kampar regency. Form of class action research is research. Instruments of this study consisted of learning devices and instruments of data collection form teacher observation sheet activities, student activities, and tests the ability to understand short texts in English students. The research was conducted in two cycles and each cycle is done in two meetings. In order to study this class action work well without the barriers that interfere with the smoothness of the study, researchers set about the stages through which the class action research, namely: 1) Planning / preparation of action, 2) Implementation of action, 3) Observation, and Reflection. Successful implementation of cooperative learning model script on the subjects of English, known from the increased ability to understand short texts in English of students from cycle I to cycle II. From the results of tests on a cycle I mean the ability to understand short texts in English only reached 60.7% in the category are due to be in the range 56-75%. While the results of observations on the second cycle of the average ability to understand short texts in English of students reached 80.0% in the high category. This situation suggests that the improvement of learning in English subjects with the implementation of cooperative learning model script can be said to succeed.
