Abstract

This research is motivated by the low of students’ ability in speaking English. The formulation of this research is whether students’ ability in English could be improved by the implementation exercise method. The subject of this research is the teacher and fourth year students of public elementary school 014 Sungai Putih district of Tapung the regency of Kampar in academic year 2010-2011 with the number 30 students. The object of this research is the implementation of exercise method to improve students’ ability in speaking English. In order that this research runs well, the writer has arranged some steps, they are: 1) the planning, 2) the implementation, 3) observation, and 4) reflection. The success of the implementation of exercise method is known form the improving of students’ ability in speaking English before an action, on the first cycle and second cycle. An average scores of students’ ability in speaking ability before an action is 57,6% with “weak” category, and some scores range 55%-69%. This percentage increases in the first cycle it is 73,5% and is categorized “middle” and some scores range 70%-79%. And this number still increases on the second cycle it is 89,6% and is categorized “able” and some scores range 80%-100%. Therefore, the writer conclude that the implementation of exercise method could improve students’ ability in speaking ability at the fourthA year of public elementary school 014 Sungai Putih district of Tapung the regency of Kampar.
