Abstract
This research aimed at finding out the effect of using Flashcard media on descriptive text writing ability of the eleventh-grade students in Senior High School of PGRI Pekanbaru. Quantitative approach was used in this research with pre-experimental design: one-group pretest and posttest. 24 students were the samples selected through purposive sampling technique. The research instrument was writing test measuring five assessment components: content, organization, vocabulary, language use, and mechanics. The research findings showed that the student mean score increased from 70.04 in the pretest to 71.92 in the posttest. Based on paired-sample t-test analysis, the score of significance 0.013 was lower than 0.05. Thus, Alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, and it meant that the use of flashcards had a significant effect on student descriptive text writing ability. These findings indicated that flashcards helped students generate ideas, organize information, and increase motivation when writing. It could be concluded that flashcard media was effective for increasing descriptive text writing ability and could be an alternative learning media in teaching English writing.
