Abstract

ABSTRACT Fitria Yesti (2025): "Philosophical Values of Pulang Sanak Suku in the Traditional Wedding Customs of the Koto Kampar Hulu Community from the Perspective of Islamic Family Law" This study examines the philosophical values underlying the implementation of the Pulang Sanak Suku tradition in Koto Kampar Hulu District, which is a customary requirement for migrant men who intend to marry local women. This tradition not only strengthens family relationships but also serves as a social acceptance instrument, customary law protection, and cultural identification. For prospective couples who do not carry out Pulang Sanak Suku, the wedding process will be delayed due to the non-issuance of the N model for the female party. The purpose of this study is to explore the meaning, function, and challenges of implementing this tradition from the perspective of Islamic Family Law. The method used is field research with a descriptive analytical approach, through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews with prospective couples who carried out Pulang Sanak Suku in Koto Kampar Hulu District, as well as supporting interviews with community leaders and religious leaders. The results show that the philosophical values of the Pulang Sanak Suku custom are moral values, social values, spiritual values, and sentimental values. The positive impacts include maintaining family honor and the prospective husband's dignity, obtaining customary law protection, gaining adoptive family, and fostering kinship ties. The negative impacts include burdening the prospective husband, delaying the wedding ceremony, not receiving protection from the Customary Chiefs, and being ignored by the community. The perspective of Islamic Family Law on the Pulang Sanak Suku custom in wedding customs is flexible. If it does not violate customary rules as long as it does not conflict with Islamic law, and does not involve elements of dishonesty and exploitation of others' weaknesses, then the implementation of Pulang Sanak Suku in Koto Kampar Hulu is not a contradiction between customary rules and Islamic Family Law.
