Abstract

This study aimed to identify whether there was a significant effect of implementing the think talk write strategy on students' writing abilities. In this research, a quasi-experimental design was used control and experimental class. The subjects of this study were students of classes VIII.3 and VIII.7 at SMPN 20 Pekanbaru for the academic year 2023/2024. The population totaled 320 students, and they were selected through purposive sampling. The sample used in this study consisted of 81 students, with 41 students in the control class and 40 students in the experimental class. The researcher used a writing test for both the pre-test and post- test in the form of a recount text. The data analysis used was the Mann-Whitney test. The test results were processed statistically using SPSS 23.0. The data results showed a (2-tailed) value of .000, which can be stated as .000 < 0.05. This means that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, while the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted.
