Abstract
This research aimed at finding out the increase of science literacy of students taught by using Problem Based Learning model with Socio Scientific Issue approach on Ecology and Biodiversity lesson. Quasi-experimental method was used in this research with nonequivalent control group design. All the seventhgrade students at State Islamic Junior High School 2 Pekanbaru City were the population of this research. Purposive sampling technique was used in this research. The samples were the seventh-grade students of CD class as the experiment group taught by using Problem Based Learning model with Socio Scientific Issue approach and the students of class 1 as the control group taught by using conventional learning model. Science literacy test question and observation sheet were used to collect data. The data of student science literacy posttest results were analyzed by using t-test with SPSS 22, and the result was 0.000. Ngain test was also conducted in the experiment group, and the result was 0.575 with moderate category. It could be concluded that there was a significant increase of science literacy between students taught by using Problem Based Learning model with Socio Scientific Issue approach and those who were taught by using conventional learning on Ecology and Biodiversity lesson at the seventh grade of State Islamic Junior High School 2 Pekanbaru City.
