Abstract

ABSTRACT Novia Ramadhanis (2024): An Analysis of Writing Tasks in “Pathway to English” Textbook for the Twelve Grade Senior High School The aims of the research is : (1) To find out the type of writing task are provided in “Pathway to English” textbook for the twelve grade senior high school published by Erlangga in 2017 based on Nation Theory. (2) To find out whether the writing task in the “Pathway to English” textbook for the high school grade twelve fulfill the criteria of writing tasks suggested by Nation theory. This research is a qualitative research (content analysis). The researcher used documentation technique and checklist instrument in data collection, namely the book “Pathway to English” written by Theresia Sudarwati and Eudia Grace. The result of this study show that there are 52 writing task provided in the textbook that meet the criteria of writing task by Nation theory: 9 Experience task, 10 shared task, 21 guided task and 12 independent task. Of the 27 writing task criteria based on Nation Theory, 16 types of writing tasks are available, and 11 types of writing tasks are not available. It can be concluded that the book "Pathway to English” for the high twelve grade senior high school level meets the criteria (good). Because the textbook provides more than 50% (half) of the types of writing tasks suggested by Nation Theory that is (Draw and write, linked skills, blackboard composition, group-class composition, group composition, writing with a secretary, translation, look and write, question answer, correction, completion, back writing, put the words in order, follow the model, writing by steps and independent task).
