Abstract

DIAH AYU ARINI (2023) : THE AWARENESS TOWARD ENGLISH PRONUNCIATION OF ENGLISH EDUCATION DEPARTMENT STUDENTS OF STATE ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY OF SULTAN SYARIF KASIM RIAU In English pronunciation, English foreign language learners must be aware of several features, including consonants, vowels, articulation, intonation, and stress. If they do not pay enough attention to these features, it can cause problems when they are speaking. This study is designed to describe students‟ level of awareness toward English pronunciation at the English education department of the State Islamic University of Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau. The design of this research is descriptive quantitative research. The researcher uses a survey model with 121 respondents to collect the data. Based on the analysis of students‟ awareness toward English pronunciation, shows that the total score was 6375. Meanwhile, the mean score of students‟ awareness toward English pronunciation was 3,43. It means that the category of students‟ awareness toward English pronunciation is high level. The researcher also found that supra-segmental features were the most difficult part of English pronunciation. And most of the students solve the problem from the difficult part of English pronunciation by learning from applications such as YouTube, google translate, and online dictionaries.
