Abstract

ABSTRACT Tiara Salsabilla (2022): The Effect of Using Picture on Students’ Speaking Ability at SMP MUHAMMADIYAH 1 Teluk Kuantan. This research is aimed to find out the effect of using picture on students’ speaking ability to the second grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Teluk Kuantan. This quantitative research method was an experimental research design which employed pre-experimental--one group pre-test and post-test. The variables of this research were picture as an independent variable and students’ speaking ability as a dependent variable. The population of this research was an eighth grade of SMP MUHAMMADIYAH 1 Teluk Kuantan, the total of population of this research were 113 students. Then, there was one class used in this research; the VIII.4 students of SMP MUHAMMADIYAH 1 Teluk Kuantan. There were 26 students as a sample of this research. In analyzing the data, the researcher used oral speaking test. The instrument used to collect data in this research was test consists of pre-test and post-test. The data were presented in paired sample t-test through the SPSS version 25.0 program. The researcher found that there was a significant difference between the students’ speaking score in pre-test and post-test. It was proved by the mean score that the post-test was higher than the mean score in the pre-test. The mean score of pre-test was 63.23, while the mean score of post-test was 75.53, where the Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. Thus, the writer concluded that there were significant differences before and after using picture on eighth grade students at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Teluk Kuantan.
