Abstract

ABSTRACT Nurhati Br Hasibuan (2022): A Comparative Studyon the EffectofUsing Task Bas e Language Teaching And Genre Based Approach on Student‟s Reading Comprehension at Mas Ittihadul MukhlishinHutatonga The main purpose of this research was to examine the significant effects of task based language teaching and genre based approach on student s‟ reading comprehension on students‟ reading comprehension at MAS Ittihadul Mukhlisin Hutatonga. The designo f this research was quasi -experi mental design. This research used pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzedby using Independent Sample T- test and Paired Sample T-test. The results of this research were; first, the significant effectofusing taskbased languageteachingonthestudents‟ reading comprehension. The researcher found the significant 0.00 < 0.05. Second, the researcher also found the significant effect of using genre based approach on the students‟ re ading comprehension.The rese archerfoundthesignificant 0.03<0.05.Last, the researcher foundthesignificantdifferencein readingcomprehensionbetweenstudentstaughtby using task based language teaching and genre based approach. The significant value was 0.00 < 0.05. In conclusion, task based language teaching ismore effective than genre based approach to improve students' reading comprehension. The mean gain score of task based languageteaching was higher than the mean gain score of genre basedapproach(13.54>13.27). Key Word: Task Based Language Teaching, Genre Based Approach, Reading
