Abstract

ABSTRACT Neng Siska Fitriyani, (2022) : “Implementation of the 2013 Curriculum in Teaching English at Junior High Schools in Pekanbaru”. This study was conducted to determine the implementation of the 2013 curriculum in Junior High School 8 and Junior High School 34 Pekanbaru, as well as to explain the obstacles faced by English teachers in implementing the 2013 curriculum in the teaching and learning process at Junior High School 8 and Junior High School 34 Pekanbaru. Data were analyzed descriptive qualitative methods. Data collection techniques used are observation, interviews and documentation. The results showed that the implementation of the 2013 curriculum at Junior High School 8 and Junior High School 34 Pekanbaru was carried out according to the pattern and system set by the government. The 2013 curriculum makes students more active and makes it easier for teachers in the teaching and learning process. While the obstacles experienced by teachers in implementing the 2013 curriculum at Junior High School 8 and Junior High School 34 Pekanbaru are that students lack facilities and teachers find it difficult to character-based assessments required by the 2013 curriculum, teachers find it difficult to implement teaching based on the 2013 curriculum, and even they also combine 2013 curriculum and their own methods to facilitate the teaching process in the classroom. Students also still need adaptation for independent study, teachers have difficulty assessing the attitudes, knowledge and skills of each student who has more than 30 students in one class.
