Abstract
This research is an experimental research. The problem of this research is the the students have difficulties to communicate in English. This research is done to find significant effect of English conversation club activities toward the students’ speaking ability at the second year of Islamic Boarding School AlKautsar Pekanbaru. The subject of this research is the second year students of Islamic Boarding School Al-Kautsar Pekanbaru. The second year student consists of three classes (80 students). The writer takes 45% (30 students) as the sample of the research. The way in choosing this sample is random sampling. The instruments of this research is test. It is used to know the students’ speaking ability. Whereas, to analyze the data, the writer used t-test. Based on the writer’s findings, it can be known that the students’ speaking ability score before participating in English conversation club activities can be categorized fail and the students’ speaking ability score after participating in English conversation club activities can be categorized enough. In addition, the result of t-test is higher than on distributit table. It means that Ho is accepted and the Ha is rejected. In conclution, there is significant effect of English conversation club activities toward the students’ speaking ability at the second year of Islamic Boarding School Al-Kautsar Pekanbaru. It means that English conversation club activities can improve the students’ speaking ability at the second year of Islamic Boarding School Al-Kautsar Pekanbaru
