Abstract

ABSTRACT Della Firstya Hanani (2022) : The Correlation Between Students’ Knowledge About Word Structure and Vocabulary Mastery at SMPN 40 Pekanbaru This research was a correlational research. This research aimed to find out the correlation between students’ knowledge about word structure and their vocabulary mastery. There were two variables used in this research namely variable X (the word structure knowledge of students) and variable Y (the vocabulary mastery of students). The subjects of this research were the second year students of SMPN 40 Pekanbaru. This research was a quantitative research. The samples taken were 30 students selected by using simple random sampling. In the data collection, the researcher distributed multiple choice test to all students to measure students’ knowledge about the word structure and their vocabulary mastery with 10 multiple choice questions based on the indicator. The data were analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient through SPSS 22.0. The results of this research show that the sig. value (2-tailed) was 0.000. It can be stated that 0.000 is smaller than 0.05 which means that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. The value of coefficient correlation (r) was 0.703. Thus, it can be concluded that there is significantly positive correlation between the word structure knowledge of students and their vocabulary mastery at SMPN 40 Pekanbaru.
