Abstract
Rizki Dwi Santoso (2020): An Analysis of Students’ Speaking Difficulties in Using Question Words at State Senior High School 9 Pekanbaru Based on the preliminary research, it was found that the eleventh grade students of State Senior High School 9 Pekanbaru had speaking difficulties in using question words. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the students’ speaking difficulties and their dominant speaking difficulties in using Question Words. The design of this research is descriptive quantitative. The population of this research was the eleventh grade students of State Senior High School 9 Pekanbaru majoring in Social Science and the sample was 20% of them. To take the sample, the researcher used random sampling technique. To get the data, the researcher gave an oral test. Then, SPSS 25.0 program was used to measure and calculated them. The results show that the total of incorrect in using wh word is 408 or 19%. The total of incorrect in using operator is 567 or 26%. The total of incorrect in using lexical verb is 283 or 13%, and the total of incorrect in using word order is 192 or 9%. To conclude, the dominant speaking difficulty in using question words is the use of operator, which is 26%. Keywords: speaking difficulties, question words
