Abstract

In this research, the students had problems inanalyzing the contents or information text especially generic structure in narrative text and the teacher only taught reading especially in reading text generally, and made studentsconfused. The formulations of problems were To what extend SOAPS strategy improves students’ ability in reading comprehension of the second year students of IPS 2 at SMAN 1 Tualang andWhat factorsSOAPS Strategy influence to improve students’ ability in reading comprehension of II IPS 2 at SMAN 1 Tualang. The objective of the research was to see out the extent of SOAPS Strategy that can improve reading Comprehension of the students of 2 IPS 2 at SMAN 1 Tualang, Perawang, Siak Regencyandin identifying and the factors of students’ reading comprehension by using SOAPS strategy ofsecond year of IPS 2 at SMAN 1 Tualang, Perawang, Siak Regency. In this researh, the writer used SOAPS strategy as solving problem. Because this strategy could help students in order that the students can understant how analize the text especially generic structure in narrative text. The research was carried out at SMAN 1 TualangPerawang. It was conducted from March to April, 2013.The type of research used was action research. The writer used one class that consisted of 35 students. Based on the result, the writer concluded,students wereable toanalyze thetextwell and answer the text especially generic structure in narrative textand they were able to apply SOAPS strategy. The factors that influenced to improve reading comprehension were first, The srategy was easy to be undestood by students. Second, the students always got exercises, the third there are good comunication when writer explain the materialand the fourth the presentation of the teacherwas simple.
