Abstract

This research was conducted on students in learning English especially in reading comprehension of descriptive text. Some of the problems were; some of the students could not understand how to identify the information of reading text, some of the students could not identify pronominal reference of reading text, some of the students could not identify communicative purpose of reading text, and some of the students also could not know language feature of the text. The type research was quasi-experimental research. The main focus of this research was to find out a significant effect of reading comprehension of the second grade students at SMPN I Tambang between students who were taught by using Before, During, After ( B-D-A) Questioning Chart strategy and who were not. The subject of this research was the second grade students at SMPN I Tambang. In this research, the writer took two classes; experiment and control classes from three classes. It means that 40 students were as the sample from 90 students of population by using clustering random sample based on group. In collecting the data, the writer used test. The test used was written test. In analyzing the data, the researcher used SPSS.17. Finally, the researcher found that the significant number was 0,000<0, 05, and the implementation of Before, During, After (B-D-A) Questioning Chart strategy was well done (93%). It means that there were still any missing item procedures. Based on the significant result above, Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. Besides, it could be proved that the mean score of students’ reading comprehension of post-test at experimental class was 71, 25, while students’ reading comprehension of post-test at control class was 62, 50. Furthermore, the mean score of improvement of students’ reading comprehension at experiment class was 26, 75 while in control class was 14, 75. In conclusion, It means, null hypothesis (H0) is rejected, and alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. In other words, there is a significant effect of using Before, During, After (B-D-A) Questioning Chart strategy towards reading comprehension in descriptive text of the second grade students at SMPN 1 Tambang.
