Abstract

ABSTRACT Ayu Wulandari (2020): The Effect of Using Free Writing Technique on Students’ Ability in Writing Recount Text at Madrasah Aliyah Al-Ihsan Boarding School Riau. This research aimed to find out whether there was a significant effect of using Free Writing technique on students’ ability in writing recount text at Madrasah Aliyah Al-Ihsan Boarding School Riau. It was carried out in the design of quasi-experimental research. The sample of this research was the tenth grade students of Madrasah Aliyah Al-Ihsan Boarding School Riau which were divided into control class and experimental class. In collecting the data the researcher used writing test, whereas for analyzing the data the researcher used the Independent Sample T-test formula through SPSS 23. Then, continued using Eta Square formula. The researcher found that Tobtained was 7.90 and df = 32. Tobtained was 7.90 higher than Ttable = 2.65 (at significant level of 5%) and Ttable = 2.00 (at significant level of 1%). It can be concluded that 2.00≤7.90≥2.65, Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. Then, the effect size was 0.66 categorized into a large effect. Key words: Free Writing Technique, Writing Ability, Recount Text
