Abstract
This research aimed to find out the effect of storytelling on students’ listening and speaking skills of class X MAN 1 Pekanbaru. The research was a Quasi-Experimental study consisting of three variables; one independent variable, namely; storytelling and two dependent variables; that is, listening and speaking skills. The samples of this study were selected using Cluster Sampling technique. Two classes were taken as the sample of the research totally 59 students. The instruments used to collect data were a pre-test and post-test. Having analyzed the data using SPSS, it was found out that there was a statistically significant difference in sig.0.05 in students' listening and speaking skills between the posttests of both experimental group I and experimental group II where the significance level of the listening and speaking skills of the post-test mean the scores between the experimental group I and the experimental group II in sig (2 - tailed)was 0.017. This means that Ha was accepted. The second finding showed that the sig (2-tailed) value was 0.000 and lower than the significant probability of 5% (P <0.05). The result of the third hypothesis testing indicated that Ha was accepted. The third finding with the sig (2-tailed) value was 0.000 and lower than the significant probability meaning that Ha was accepted. The fourth finding was that the value of eta square of 0.74 was higher than 0.20 (0.74 > 0.20). The value of 0.74 was included in Effect Moderate (0.51 – 1.00). The result of the fifth hypothesis test showed that Ha was accepted and the result of the sixth hypothesis test showed that Ha was accepted. Meanwhile, the results of the seventh hypothesis test indicated that Ha was accepted. The last finding showed that there was a significant difference in students' speaking skills between the pre-test and the post-test
