Abstract
The objectives of the research were to find out the students’ reading comprehension of recount text taught by using View-Talk-Summarize-Refine strategy, to find out the students’ reading comprehension of recount text taught without using this strategy and to find out whether there was a significant effect of using View-Talk-Summarize-Refine strategy on students’ reading comprehension of recount text. Type of the research is Quasi Experiment. The population of this research is 112 students. The researcher used cluster random sampling as the technique sampling of the research. The sample class was VIII I as experimental class and VIII 4 as control class. In this research, the writer used a test to collect data. Then, writer used the formula of independent sample t-test by using SPSS 20 for data analysis. After analyzing the data by using SPSS computer program, it was found that tobtained was 3.211, which was greater than ttable at 5% (2.00) and 1% (2.65) level of significance. It can be concluded that 2.00 < 3.211 > 2.65. It means that null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, while the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. In conclusion, there is significant different of using View-TalkSummarize-Refine strategy to improve students’ reading comprehension on recount text of the second grade students at Junior High School Yayasan Dwi Sejahtera Pekanbaru.
