Abstract

In reading process, there are two types of the reading, oral and silent reading. Based on the researcher’s preliminary study, it was found that some of the second year students at Islamic junior High School PP Assalam Naga Beralih had problems in reading comprehension. The problems are seen in their inability to achieve the passing grade. So, the writer was interested in carrying out the research about this problem. The objective of this research was to find out the differences on students’ reading comprehension taught by using Oral Reading and Silent Reading Technique at the second year of Islamic Junior High School PP Assalam Naga Beralih Kampar. The research design was comparative research. The population of this research was the second year students of Islamic Junior High School PP Assalam Naga Beralih Kampar that consisted of eight classes. The subject of this research was selected two classes from total number of classes by using purposive sampling: VIII G and VIII H as comparative groups. There were 27 students of each class as sample from 226 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used 20 multiple choice tests. The researcher analyzed the data using independent sample t-test formula calculated by using SPSS 23 version. Based on the analysis of t-test Formula, the sig. value was 0.44. It could be stated that 0.044<0.05. Thus Ha is accepted. The researcher concluded that there is a significant difference between using Oral reading and Silent Reading on students’ reading comprehension of narrative text at Islamic Junior High School PP Assalam Naga Beralih Kampar.
