Abstract
Based on the researcher’s preliminary observation and information from the English teacher at State Senior High School 1 Siak Kecil, it was found that some of the second year students had problems in reading comprehension, especially in Hortatory exposition text. They could not reach the passing grade (KKM).The main focus of this research was to find out whether there was a significant difference between using and without using OK4R Method on students’ reading comprehension of hortatory exposition text at the second year of State senior High School 1 Siak Kecil. The writer formulated the problems that would be answered by using the quantitative research. This research had two variables Using OK4R Method as an independent variable and students’ reading comprehension as a dependent variable.The type of research was a Quasi-experimental research.The subject of this research was the second year students at State Senior High School 1 Siak Kecil. The writer took two groups: experimental and control group. There were 56 students as sample from 134 students at State Senior High School 1 Siak Kecil . In collecting the data, the researcher used multiple choice test. In analyzing the data, the researcher used an independent t-test formula by using SPSS 16 version. Based on the analysis of data, the result showed that the score of t-test was 4.460, which was greater than t-table at the 5% level of significance (2.01), and at 1% level of significance (2.68). It can be concluded that tobtained= 4.460 with df=54. In tobtained= 4.460 is bigger than ttable = 2.01(at significance level of 5%) and ttable = 2.68 (at significance level of 1%); 2.01 4.460 2.68. It means Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. Keyword: Effect, OK4R Method, Reading Comprehension
