Abstract

Based on the preliminary research, it was found that the eleventh grade of vocational high school Muhammadiyah 2 Pekanbaru got difficulties in speaking. It can be seen that some of the students were not able to express their ideas orally in speaking because the students were afraid to give correction about their peer presentation. The aim of the research was to find out the correlation between students’ peer assessment and their speaking skill at of vocational high school Muhammadiyah 2 Pekanbaru. The design of this research was a correlational research design. The population of the research was the eleventh grade students of vocational high school Muhammadiyah 2 Pekanbaru and the sample is 25% of Multimedia class. The number of sample was selected by using simple random sampling technique. To get the data, the researcher gave questionnaire and oral test, and then analyzed the data by using pearson product moment calculated by SPSS 23.0 program. After analyzing the data, the result of sig.t .001 was smaller than 0.05 (sig.≤ 0.05). It could be stated that Ha (alternative hypothesis) is accepted. In other words, there is a significant correlation between students’ peer assessment and their speaking skill at Vocational High School Muhammadiyah 2 Pekanbaru.
