Abstract

This research aims to know there is a significant difference of speaking anxiety level between male and female students at Al-Ittihad Senior High School Rumbai. There are 48 students as population that are divided into 2 class, the writer selected 20 male students and 26 female students as sample that are taken by stratified sampling. After doing preliminary study by observation the learning process and interviewing the English teacher, the writer found problem on students speaking ability, the writer found out that some of students afraid to deliver their ideas, appear nervous while speaking test, and afraid to do speaking performance. The design of this research is comparative research by using questionnaire consist of 18 questions as its instrument. In analysing the data, independent sample t-test techniques used to measure the difference of students’ speaking anxiety level between male and female students. Based on the research finding, it is found that probability level = 0.13 > 0.05. It is concluded that Ho is accepted and Ha is rejected means there is no significant difference between male and female students’ speaking anxiety level at Al-Ittihad Senior High School Rumbai where female students’ speaking anxiety level is higher than male students.
