Abstract

This research is entitled “An Analysis of Students’ Ability in Changing Information Questions of Indonesian to Wh-Questions of English at the Eight Grade of Junior High School 1 Bangkinang”. The research proposed 2 formulations of the problems; How is students ability in changing information questions of Indonesian(Apa, Siapa, Mengapa, Dimana,Kapan, Bagaiman) to wh-questions of English (What, Which, Who, Whom, Why, Where, When, How) at the eight grade of Junior High School 1 Bangkinang, what are factors make students’ difficulties to change information questions of Indonesian (Apa, Siapa, Mengapa, Dimana, Kapan, Bagaimana) to wh- questions of English (What, Which, Who, Whom, Why, Where, When, How) at the eight grade of Junior High School 1 Bangkinang. The objectives of the research ware to know the students’ ability in changing information questions of Indonesian to Wh-questions of English, to know the factors that make students’s difficulties to change information questions of Indonesian to Wh-questions of English at the eight grade of Junior High School 1 Bangkinang. In this research, the research design was descriptive research. The population of this research was the eight grade students of Junior High School 1 Bangkinang in 2017/2018 academic year. It was consisted of four classes; the number of population was 104 students. The sample of this research was 37 students taken random from 4 classes. The instruments of this research were test (for students’ ability) and questionnaire (the factors for students difficulties). The technique of analyzing data was quantitative analysis. Based on the data analysis, the writer concluded that the students were in enough category. It causes from linguistic, cultural and personal factors. KeyWords: Ability, Changing Wh-Questions
