Abstract

The title of this research is “the relationship between vocabulary mastery and fluency in reading english text at the second year of SMAN 1 Bangkinag Barat”. The second year students at senior high school Bangkinang Barat have studied English even thought they can not show their fluency in reading in it. This research is find out the significant relationship between vocabulary mastery and fluency in reading English text. The subject of this researct is senior higg school at the acedemic year 2008/2009. the object of this research is vocabulary mastery and fluency in reading English tex. The total number of population is 112 students and the sample is 45 studens by using random sampling technique. The techigue of collecting data is by using test. Studens wera given some guestions about vocabulary and understanding text This was then analyzed by using the formula of product moment for N>30. r xy = ∑ N yx '' SDSD CyCx .. )')('( - yx '' Based on this research the writer can conclude that thered is a siggnificant between vocabulary mastery and fluency in reading English text. So , students must be active to improve their reading ability in order be able to understand easily.
