Abstract

This research aimed at finding out the effect of using English learning videos on students’ listening skills at the eighth grade of State Junior High School 5 Tandun. The background of this research was the low of student listening skills proven with difficulties in understanding spoken information and following English instructions. Pre-experiment method was used with one-group pre-test and posttest design. The samples consisted of 30 eighth-grade students selected with total sampling. Data were collected through listening skill tests before and after the treatment using English learning videos. The research findings showed that there was a significant increase in post-test scores after students were treated with English learning videos. This was proven with the score of significance (Sig. 2-tailed) 0.000 lower than 0.05. Thus, it could be concluded that there was a significant effect of using English learning videos in increasing student listening skills.
