Abstract
The Effect of Using Story Telling on Students` Speaking Ability at SMPN 2 Bengkalis. Most of the students` of grade VIII SMPN 2 Bengkalis have low speaking ability due to several factors, it is lack of mastery of vocabulary, difficulty in pronunciation and grammar, lack of self – confidence and fear to speak and ineffective teaching methods, so researchers are interested in using story telling techniques as a solution to these problems. Storytelling technique is a keyword or main topic that can produce other ideas that are associated with a chart or image, with storytelling student can improve speaking skills, expand vocabulary and improve language fluency. The purpose of this study is to find out whether there are significant differences in the speaking ability of eighth graders at SMPN 2 Bengkalis before and after using the story telling technique. This research uses quantitative research with a pre-experimental research design. The research findings show that the average score of students` after using the story telling techniques is higher (62.75) than before using the story telling technique (56.75) the hypothesis results in this study show that the sig (2-tailed) is 0.000>0.05, so it can be concluded that there is a significant between before using the story t
