Abstract
The Relationship Between Emotional Intelligence and Academic Stress in Students at SMAN 11 Pekanbaru Adib Amirul Sapry Adib5element@gmail.com Fakultas psikologi Universitas Islam Negeri Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau Abstrak Changes in learning demands and curriculum can cause stress in adolescents. Academic stress can have a negaticve impact on students understanding and academic aschievement. Emotional intelligence plays an importan role in managing academic stress. Students stress response depends on the health of their personaliy and experience in dealing with stress. The development of emotional intelligence in adolescene helps students manage emotions and make better decisions. This study involed student who attended Pekanbaru High School who were selected using stratified sampling thecnique. The sample used consists of 275 students (N=275). The measurement tools used are ESSA = Educational Stres Scale for Adolescents with a reliability of 0.757 and EIS = emotional intelligence scale with a reliability of 0.768. based on kendall’s correlation analysis, a correlation coefficient of -0.006 was obtained with a significance value of 0.884. this value indicates that the hypothesis is rejected. It can be concluded that emotional intelligence is not always a factor that determines students academic stress level. Key words : emotional intelligence, academic stress, teenagers, students
