Abstract

ABSTRACT Salsabila (2023): An Analysis of Factors of Students’ Speaking Anxiety on Proposal Seminar Presentation at English Education Department UIN Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau The main focus of this research is to find out what are the factors that influence students' speaking anxiety in the proposal seminar presentation at the Department of English Language Education, UIN Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau. This research is a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. Participants in this research were Education students majoring in English who took the proposal seminar exam at UIN Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau, totaling 5 informants consisting of 3 proposal seminar exam groups and taken by purposive sampling. In collecting data, researcher used observation and interviews. There are three indicators of speaking anxiety consisting of first apprehension of verbal communication, students are anxious when speaking in front of a crowd, lack of English vocabulary and lack of confidence. Second, test anxiety, students feel anxious because they are afraid of failing, getting bad grades and anxiety affects mastery of the material. And the last fear of negative evaluation, the students felt uncomfortable and embarrassed if they received negative evaluations from examiners and the audience.
