Abstract

Traffic Accident is a problem that always happened on the road and causes negative impact not only to the drivers but also the road users. One of the causes of accident is aggressive driving behavior. Aggressive driving behavior is influenced by human trait so this research was aimed to investigate the relationship between the big five personality and aggressive driving behavior. The scales were using Aggressive Driving Behavior Scale by Houston, Harris, & Norman, 2003 consisted of 19 items and IPIP-BFM-25 scale by Akhtar & Azwar, 2018 consisted of 23 items to measure the big five personality. Data were collected by distributing questionnaires and addressed to male college students of 2019/2020 academic year who rode motorcycles using snowball sampling technique as results 97 people were participated in this research. Spearman correlation test showed that conscientiousness had relationship with aggressive driving behavior with significant value 0,010 (p<0,05). Meanwhile emotional stability (p= 0,783; p>0,05), extraversion (p= 0,415; p>0,05), intellect or openness to experience (p= 0,579; p>0,05), and agreeableness (p= 0,244; p>0,05) had no relationship with aggressive driving behavior. The benefits of this research are as additional reference to produce psychological intervention in terms of reducing aggressive driving behavior and provide information about the big five personality and aggressive driving behavior for new researchers.
