Abstract
Based on the Researcher’s interview with the teacher of English at SMAN 2 Rambah Hilir Rokan Hulu, the Researcher found some problems faced by the students, they are some of the students are not able to write hortatory exposition text correctly, some of the students are not able to write the thesis of hortatory exposition text correctly, some of the students are not able to write the argumentation of hortatory exposition text correctly, some of the students are not able write the recommendation of hortatory exposition text correctly, and some of the students are not able to use language features of hortatory exposition such as compound and complex sentence, linking argument in listening. The objectives of the research were to find out the students ability in listening by using Over to You Strategy and than taught without using Over to You Strategy at the second grade of SMAN 2 Rambah Hilir Rokan Hulu, and to find out whether there was a significant effect of using Over to You Strategy on students comprehension in listening at SMAN 2 Rambah Hilir Rokan Hulu. The type of the research was Quasi-experimental. The subject of this research was the second grade students of SMAN 2 Rambah Hilir Rokan Hulu. The object of this research was the use of Over to You Strategy and students comprehension in listening. The population of this research was all of the eleventh grade students. The total number of population was 40 students. Because the number of population was not large, the researcher used total sampling by taking two classes for sample. Each class consisted of 20 students, class XI Social1 students as an experimental class and class XI Social 2 as a control class. The total number of the sample was 40 students. After analyzing the data, the researcher found that there was a significant effect of students comprehension in listening taught by using Over to You Strategy. Thus, the tobtained is higher than the ttable : 2.03 < 3.641 > 2. 72 It means that Ha is accepted and Ho rejected. Therefore, the researcher concluded that students comprehension in listening taught by using Over to You Strategy was better than students comprehension in listening taught without using Written Conversation Strategy.
