Abstract

English is taught by the teacher at MTs Hidayatul Muta’allim by some strategies, methods and techniques. It’s because to increase students’ speaking ability such as the teacher taught students by giving explanation about the materials and then the teacher asked the students questions and responded them respectively. Sometimes the teacher used discussion, question and answer, sing a song, and guessing game. But in fact, the students remained unable to speak English well. To provide solution to this problem, the researcher proposed a technique called Oral Questionnaires. The main focus on the research was to find out whether there is a significant effect on the students’ speaking ability by using oral questionnaires technique. In this research, the type is a quasi-experimental research. The sample in this research is class VII A and class VII B where whole both of the classes are 30 students. The research used total sampling in took the sample. Both of the classes gave the pretest and posttest to known the students’ speaking ability who taught by using oral questionnaire technique. The technique in collecting data was test. Test that the writer used in collecting the data of students’ speaking ability at class VII MTs Hidayatul Muta’allim was oral presentation test. Technique in analyzing the data is by using t-test to knowing the different of pretest and posttest trough SPSS 17.0 version. The result of analyzing the data was 9.625. This result was differed with t table in 5% significance level (2.05) and in 1 % significance level (2.76). t0 (tobserved) was higher than ttable. It can be interpreted that H0 (null hypothesis) was rejected and H a (alternative hypothesis)was accepted, 2.05< 9.625> 2.76.The researcher concluded that there was a significant difference of the improvement of students’ speaking ability between those students who are taught by using Oral Questionnaires Technique and those who are not at MTs Hidayatul Muta’allim.
