Abstract

Based on the writer’s preliminary study, it was found, some problems faced by students in learning English especially in reading Comprehension. For example, some of the students had difficulties in finding the topic from reading text and had difficulties analyzing the reading text while the students had good curiosity in learning English. It can be seen from they often paid attention and did the teacher’s assignment. This research was conducted with purpose to know whether there was a significant correlation between curiosity and reading comprehension in learning English. This research was conducted at MTs Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru.The subject of this research was the eight grade students at MTs Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru and the object of this research was the students’ curiosity and their reading comprehension in learning English.The type of the research was a correlation design. The population of this research was all of the second grade students in the academic 2013/2014. They consisted of 10 classes (308 students). The researcher used simple random sampling for choosing samples. The technique of collecting data was a test and questionnaire. The test was used in order to collect the data of the students’ reading comprehension and the questionnaire was used in order to collect the data of the students’ curiosity in learning English. The technique of data analysis used serial correlation . Based on the data analysis, the writer concluded that there was significant correlation between curiosity and reading comprehension in learning English at MTs Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru. It can be seen from ro= 0.789 is higher than rtable either at significance of level 5% = 0. 361 or significance of level 1% = 0.463. We can read 0. 361< 0.789 > 0.463. Therefore, null hypothesis (H0)was rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. .
