Abstract
Based on the preliminary research at the eight grade students of SMPN 8 Pekanbaru, the researcher found the problems in learning English especially in reading comprehension. The problems were: some of the students were not interested in reading activity, some of the students were not able to comprehend the content of reading text in narrative form, some of the students were not able to find main idea and details in narrative text, some of the students were not able to answer questions in narrative text. The objective of the research was to know whether or not there is a significant effect on the students’ reading comprehension in narrative text for the students who were taught by using professor know it all strategy. The design of this research was a experimental research, this research used quasi-experimental research. The subject of the research was the eight grade students at SMPN 8 Pekanbaru which total of sample were 66 students. The data of the research were collected by two kinds of test, pre- and post-test. Pretest was used to determine the students’ reading comprehension before getting the treatment and Post-test was used to determine the students’ reading comprehension after getting the treatment. In analyzing the data, the researcher adopted Independent sample T-test formula by using SPSS version 19. Based on the analysis of data, the result shows that the score of T-test is 5.069, which greater than t-table at the 5% level of significance (2.00), and at 1% level of significance (2.65). it can be stated that 2.00 <5.069> 2.65. the researcher found that the mean score of the students’ reading comprehension of post-test in experimental class was categorized into good level, while the post-test in control class was categorized into enough level. While, the result of Kp was 20.54%. It means this strategy gave 20.54% effect. It means that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted; or there was a significant effect of using Professor Know It All Strategy toward reading comprehension in narrative text.
