Abstract
This research was conducted based on the problems faced by students in learning English, especially in learning to read. The problems were some of students had difficulties in comprehending the text, some of students had difficulties in identifying the main idea of the text, some of students had difficulties in identifying the generic structure of the text, and the strategy of teaching reading comprehension was less appropriate. Based on the factors, the writer was interested in investigating about teaching reading comprehension. Thus, the writer conducted the research entitled the Effect of Using Prepare, Structure, Read, and Think Strategy on Students’ Reading Comprehension on Hortatory Exposition Text at Islamic Senior High School Al Huda Al Ilahiyah Indragiri Hilir Regency. The purposes of the research were to find out the students’ reading comprehension on hortatory exposition text taught by using PSRT strategy and taught without using PSRT strategy, and to find out the significant difference between students’ reading comprehension on hortatory exposition text taught by using PSRT strategy and taught without using PSRT strategy. The design of this research was a quasi experimental with nonequivalent control group design by using pre-test and post-test. The subject of this research was the eleventh grade students at Islamic Senior High School Al Huda Al Ilahiyah, and the object was the effect of using PSRT strategy on the students’ reading comprehension on hortatory exposition text. The population was the eleventh grade students. Total number of population was 50 students, and the writer used all of population as sample. In collecting the data, the writer used test in form of multiple choice. In analyzing the data, the writer used independent sample t test by using SPSS 16.0 software. Finally, based on the data analysis, it was found that 2.01≤3.874≥2.68. So, the tobtained was higher than ttable. In other words, Ha was accepted. The writer concludes that there is a significant difference between the students’ reading comprehension taught by using PSRT strategy and taught without using PSRT strategy of the eleventh grade at Islamic Senior High School Al Huda Al Ilahiyah.
