Abstract

Many problems in learning English especially reading fluency are faced by some of the second year students at MTs Ponpes Darel Hikmah Pekanbaru. The students get difficulties when they read a text such as; pronunciation, intonation, rhythm, pausing, and stress. Therefore, the writer is interested in conducting this research. The purpose of this research is To find out whether there is a significant difference between the students’ reading fluency before being taught by using Listening Passage Preview Technique for experimental class and without using Listening Passage Preview Technique for control class, to find out whether there is a significant difference between the students’ reading fluency after being taught by using Listening Passage Preview Technique for experimental class and without using Listening Passage Preview Technique for control class, and to find out whether there is a significant effect of using Listening Passage Preview Technique on students’ reading fluency at MTs Ponpes Darel Hikmah Pekanbaru. This research is an experimental research, precisely a quasi experimental research. The total sample of the research is 52 students. The instrument of the research is test. The data were analyzed by using T-test. It was used to find out the effect of using Listening Passage Preview Technique on students’ reading fluency of the second year students at MTs Ponpes Darel Hikmah Pekanbaru. Based on the data analysis by using SPSS 16 version, the writer found that the score of T-test is 14.10 which it is higher than T-table in level significant of 5% (2.01), and in level significant of 1% (2.68). It could be read 2.01<14.10>2.68. It can be stated that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. It means that there is a significant effect of Listening Passage Preview Technique on students’ reading fluency of the second year students at MTs Ponpes Darel Hikmah Peknabaru. Therefore, the writer concludes that Listening Passage Preview Technique is a suitable technique in teaching reading fluency in order to increase students reading fluency of the second year students at MTs Ponpes Darel Hikmah Pekanbaru.
