Abstract

ABSTRACT Rahmi Kholida, (2020): Investigating Students’ Attitudes toward Teacher Feedback in Teaching Writing at Vocational High School Muhammadiyah 3 Pekanbaru. The aim of this research was to investigate students’ attitudes toward teacher feedback in teaching writing among the eleventh grade students of Vocational High School Muhammadiyah 3 Pekanbaru. This research used qualitative approach which the research design was case study. The subject of this research was the eleventh grade students of Vocational High School Muhammadiyah 3 Pekanbaru. This research used purposeful sampling with maximal variation sampling as strategy in taking a sample in qualitative research. The number of participants was 10 students that consist of 3 students identified as high ability, 3 students identified as middle ability, and 4 students identified as low ability students. In collecting data, the researcher interviewed deeply with focus on group interview to know students’ attitudes toward teacher feedback in teaching writing and also did cross check with interviewed an English teacher that had been given the respondents feedback. The data were analyzed by using the analysis qualitative data based on 6 steps from Cresswell (2012). The result of the data analysis showed that the students with high, middle, and low ability had various attitudes toward teacher feedback in teaching writing. In this regard, the researcher found that most of high, middle and low ability students had positive and ambivalence attitude toward teacher feedback. Furthermore, the researcher also found that students’ attitudes toward teacher feedback in teaching writing at Vocational High School Muhammadiyah 3 Pekanbaru were influenced by two factors that was teachers’ factors that included teacher’ personality and teacher’ pedagogy approach. Then, students’ factor that included students’ expectation, students’ proficiency. Key Words: Students’ attitudes, teacher feedback, teaching writing.
