Abstract

This research was aimed to find out whether the use of Matching Word Game technique gave effects to the fourth-grade students’ vocabulary mastery and motivation at SDN 018 Kubang Jaya. The research was carried out based on a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test. The sample consisted of 54 students that were taken from two classes, namely; class 4.E as an experimental class and class 4.A as a control class. The data were collected by using a vocabulary test. Matching Word Game was used as a treatment for the experimental class. The results indicated that there was a significant effect of using Matching Word Game on students’ vocabulary mastery of the experimental class. T-test result was 25.851; its standard deviation was 26, as compared to the significance value. If the probability value was > 0.05 the null hypothesis (H0 ) was rejected. If the probability value was < 0.05, the alternative hypothesis (Ha ) was accepted. Since the significance value was 0.000 < 0.05, thus, Ha was accepted and H0 was rejected. In addition, there was a significant effect of using Matching Word Game on the students’ motivation of the experimental class. Ttest result was 32.742; its standard deviation was 26, as compared to the significance value. If the probability value was > 0.05 the null hypothesis (H0 ) was rejected. If the probability value was < 0.05, the alternative hypothesis (Ha ) was accepted. Since the significance value was 0.000 < 0.05, thus, Ha was accepted and H0 was rejected.
