Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out whether there is a significant difference between the use of KWL-plusandKWLstrategies on students’ reading comprehension atIT Al-hafit Junior High SchoolPekanbaru. The type of the research was experimental research. Students in grade 8 of the school were the subject of this research. In this research, two classes were involved, namely a class as the experimental group and another class asa control group.By using cluster sampling, 40 students were randomly selected from 124 students in the population.In collecting data, multiple-choice tests and observations were done.To analyze the collected data, t test for independent and paired samples and effect size equations were used. Finally, it was found that the significant values were 0.000 and 0.000;and thevalues were smaller than p value (0.005). It means that there was a significant difference between the use of KWL-plusand KWL strategies on the students’ reading comprehension based on the results of post-test in the experimental group and the control group.Besides, the values of eta square were0.89and 0.87. In other words, there is a significant difference between the use of KWL-plusand KWL strategies onthe students’ comprehension in reading descriptive text, and the effect size is categorized as medium. In conclusion, KWL-pluswas more available to be applied in teaching and learning process of readingcomprehension at the school.
