Abstract

This research aimed at finding out the students’ reading comprehension of narrative text at the eighth grade of state junior high school 4 Pekanbaru. The research focused on finding out whether or not there is a significant difference between using and without using Index Card Match (ICM) Technique on students’ reading comprehension of narrative text of state junior high school 4 Pekanbaru, and finding out whether or not there is a significant effect of using Index Card Match (ICM) Technique on students’ reading comprehension of narrative text of state junior high school 4 Pekanbaru. The design of this research was quasi experimental. The population of the research was the eighth grade students of state junior high school 4 Pekanbaru. They consisted of ten classes. The total number of population was 372 students. The sample classes were 74 taken from two classes. The number of sample was selected by using cluster random sampling technique. To get the data, the researcher gave pre-test and posttest then, analyzed the data by using independent sample T-test and used SPSS V22. The researcher found that 2.00<3.793>2.65. So, it can be analyzed that to is higher than T-table in either 5% or 1%. It means that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. Furthermore, the researcher used eta square to analyze the significant effect of using Index Card Match (ICM) Technique, the researcher found the significant effect was 0.17. Therefore, the researcher can conclude that there is significant difference between taught using and taught without using Index Card Match (ICM) Technique and also there is significant effect of using Index Card Match (ICM) Technique on Students Reading Comprehension.
