Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the pronunciation of the word ending with “ed” and “es” in second grade students at SMA Plus Binabangsa Pekanbaru. There are several questions contained in this study. Firstly, does the student have difficulty in pronuncing the words given the suffix “ed” to make the sounds “d”,” t”, and “id.” Secondly, does the student have difficulty in pronouncing the words given the “es” suffix to determine which sounds are “s”, “z”, and “iz.” This type of research is Qualitative Analysis. The subject of this research is the students of class XI in SMA Plus Binabangsa Pekanbaru. In this study, the researchers only take a sample of one class. Sample used in this research is as many as 18 students taken from 59 populations. In the data collection, the researcher uses two instruments, namely document data and interviews conducted on teachers and some students. Document data obtained from the teacher training results of students in the pronunciation of words ending with "ed" and "es." Then the data in the document is analyzed using an online application called PRAAT. Praat is an online application that can measure the pronunciation of the students when saying the words to be assessed. Then after the results obtained the assessment then analyzed to answer the first and second questions in this study. Then after the answers obtained from the first question and the two researchers, they are strengthened by results of research by citing the content of interviews that have been done to teachers and second graders in SMA Plus Binabangsa Pekanbaru. Furthermore, researchers can answer the third question is the factor factors that cause students to feel difficult in pronunciation of words that are ending “ed” and “es”. The conclusion of this research is to know students' ability to pronounce words with “ed” and “es” suffix. Because basically English learning is only done in general, all aspects are combined into one. Nothing specific, for instance, in a classroom teachers does not have a special hour to teach students only about pronunciation, but all aspects such as reading, writing, and pronouncing a word are integrated.
