Abstract

This research was a correlational research. This research aimed at finding out the correlation between students’ achievement in vocabulary and reading ability. There were two variables used in this research. The first was X variable (achievement in vocabulary) andthe second Y (Reading ability). The subject of this research was the second year students at SMK TELKOM Pekanbaru whereas the object of this research was the correlation between students’ achievement in Vocabulary and Reading Ability. The population of this research was 200 students. To choose the sample, the researcher used simple random sampling technique. In collecting the data, the researcher used tests for achievement in vocabulary and reading ability. From the data analysis which had been done by using SPSS 20 version, it could be seen that there was a significant correlation between achievement in vocabulary and reading ability. It could be shown by the explanation: 1) The score of correlation coefficient was 0.468> 0.3081in significance level of 5% and 0.3978 in significant level of 1% (see the table of product moment). It means that Ha was accepted which indicated that there is a significant correlation between students’ achievement in vocabulary and reading ability. 2) The probability of score sig. (2-tailed) was 0.000>0.05. It means that Ha was accepted. In other words, there is a significant correlation between achievement in vocabulary and reading ability.
