Abstract

This research discussed about the correlation between students’ reading attitude and reading comprehensionat the seventh grade of Junior Islamic Boarding School Daarun Nahdhah Thawalib Bangkinang. There were 3 formulations of the problems, they are: (1) how is students’ reading attitude at the seventh grade of Junior Islamic Boarding School Daarun Nahdhah Thawalib Bangkinang (2) how is students’ reading comprehension at the seventh grade of Junior Islamic Boarding School Daarun Nahdhah Thawalib Bangkinang (3) Is there any significant correlation between students’ reading attitude and their reading comprehension at the seventh grade of Junior Islamic Boarding School Daarun Nahdhah Thawalib Bangkinang. This research was a correlational research. The questionnaire was used to determine students’ reading attitude and the multiple choice test was used to determine students’ reading comprehension. The population of this research was all of the seventh grade of Junior Islamic Boarding School Daarun Nahdhah Thawalib Bangkinang. Then, in determining the sample the researcher used simple random sampling technique. The total number of the sample was 32 students. The researcher used pearson product moment correlation formula and analyzed by using SPSS version 16.0. Based on the data analysis, it showed that sig.t = .000 was smaller than 0.05 (sig.≤ 0.05). It can be concluded that Ha (alternative hypothesis) was accepted. In other words, there was a significant correlation between students’ reading attitude and reading comprehension at the seventh grade of Junior Islamic Boarding School Daarun Nahdhah Thawalib Bangkinang.
