Abstract
Based on the researcher’s preliminary observation and information from the English teacher at State Junior High School 14 Mandau, it was found that some of the first year students had problems in reading comprehension, especially in narrative text. They could not reach the passing grade (KKM). The purpose of this research to determine whether there is influence in using Question, Reduce, Read, and Review strategy on reading comprehension of narrative text. Type of the research is Pre-Experiment. The sample class was VIII A as experimental class. In this research, the writer used a pretest and posttest to collect data. Then, writer used the formula of paired sample t-test by using SPSS 16 for data analysis. After analyzing the data by using SPSS computer program, it was found that tobtained was 8.664, which was greater than ttable at 5% (2.12) and 1% (2.92) level of significance. It can be concluded that 2.12 < 8.664 > 2.92. It means that null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, while the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. In conclusion, there is significant effect of using question, reduce, read, and review strategy to improve students’ reading comprehension on narrative text of the second grade students at State Junior High School 14 Mandau.
