Abstract

Senior High School 7 Pekanbaru, the researcher found that the students still had many problems in reading comprehension of analytical exposition texts, such as some of the students were not able to identify the main idea, generic structure, communicative purpose in reading text and had lack of vocabulary. To solve the problems above, the researcher wanted to apply a strategy that helps students to improve their reading comprehension of analytical expostion texts. This strategy is called Pair Questions and Answers Strategy. Therefore, in this research, the researcher conducted the research in order to find out the significant difference and significant effect of using Pair Questions and Answers Strategy on students’ reading comprehension of analytical expositions texts of the second year students at State Senior High School 7 Pekanbaru. The design of this research was an experimental research. The type of the research was quasi-experimental research. The researcher took two classes as the sample of the research that consisted of 30 students in each class. Cluster random sampling technique was used by the researcher to take the sample. The technique of data collection was test. Meanwhile, to analyze the data, the researcher used Independent Sample T-test formula by using SPSS 16.0 Version, the Eta Squared formula was used to find out the effect size. After calculating the scores, the researcher found that the result of T-test was 4.101. Then, compared tobtain with ttable from df = 58 that shows at significance level of 5%, 2.01 and at level of 1%, it shows 2.68. It can be said that 2.01 <4.101>2.68. It means that tobtain > ttable, Ha is accepted, in which the result of the effect size was 0.224. In other words, there is a significant difference and significant effect of the students’ reading comprehension of analytical exposition text between those who are taught by using Pair Questions and Answers Strategy and taught without using Pair Questions and Answers Strategy of the second year at State Senior High School 7 Pekanbaru.
