Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to determine the influence of producing electronic portfolio as additional task on students’ speaking performance at MAN 2 Pekanbaru. It is a correlational study that consists of two variables, namely producing electronic portfolio as additional task (as an independent variable) and students’ speaking performance (as a dependent variable). Thirty-four (34) respondents participated as samples that were taken from tenth-grade students in MIPA 7 and 8 (special classes for Olympiad competition) by using a total sampling. Data collection for the independent variable was done by using an observation checklist that consisted of 13 indicators or items to assess the students’ activities in producing electronic portfolio. For the dependent variable, assessment on the students’ speaking performance was done by using analytical rubric that consisted of 5 indicators. The collected data were analyzed by using SPSS program. The results of analysis show that the students’ mean score in producing electronic portfolio is 74.12 and it is categorized as "very good". Then, the mean score of their speaking performance is 67.97, which is also categorized as "good". It is found that the significant (2-tailed) value is 0.000<0.05. The results indicate that Ha is accepted. Therefore, it is concluded that there is a significant influence of producing electronic portfolio as additional task on the students’ speaking performance. Keywords: influence, producing electronic portfolio, additional task, speaking performance
